There was a time, a Rome-born Sri Lankan met a Borneo-born Chinese in Kuala Lumpur and started a cross-country relationship which is challenging yet fascinating. This cross-cultural couple is amused to see how curious their circle of friends and families tend to get confused about cross cultures between Italy? Rome? Sri Lanka? Malaysia? Borneo? China?
So the story goes...
He is Italiano as well as Sri Lankan descendant.
She is Malaysian as well as Chinese descendant.
He greets her "come stai", she greets him "ni hao 你好“.
He is trying to learn Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, Malay. (Yes, super challenging!)
She is trying to understand Italian and Sinhalese. (OMG very challenging too!)
He calls her "fluffy puffy" and she calls him "pang pang 胖胖 (fatty)" to express love.
He "vaffanculo" and she "CCB" to express anger. (you know what it means)
He cooks her pasta, she brings him Sarawak laksa.
He loves wine, she loves Guinness.
He sometimes craves for spicy Indian food, she craves for hot Sichuan cuisine.
He hates her favorite steamboat hot pot, she hates his favorite gnocchi.
He does household chores, she drives him everywhere.
He shares exciting story of tourism, she shares daunting corporate story.
He tells history about Alexander the Great, she tells history of Shun Zhong Shan.
He made her watch Schindler's List, she made him watch Jack Ma vs Elon Musk debate.
His dynamic energy uplift her energy, her rationality facilitate his decision making.
His literary mind blend well with her meditative mind.
His intuitive thinking blend well with her reflective thinking.
His simple mind blend well with her cogitative mind.
His affectionateness blend well with her reservedness.
His boyish blend well with her girlish.
That is why they blend well together. 🖤
